Best for: Traditional Greek cooking in central Vathy
Rose Garden is another established Vathy restaurant and is located close to the head of the harbour.

This would be one of my choices for travellers wanting a straightforward traditional Greek meal rather than something overly elaborate.

Stavros has a longer history than its current Vathy location might suggest.

Seafood is an obvious choice.
Look for whatever fish is genuinely available that day rather than assuming a particular species will always be fresh and local.

Vathy is the easiest place on Meganisi for travellers who like eating out every evening.
You have traditional tavernas, seafood restaurants, grills and Italian alternatives within a relatively small area. Current directories list at least nine restaurant/taverna businesses in Vathy alone.
I’d avoid booking the same style of restaurant every night.
For example:
Night 1: traditional Greek
Night 2: fresh fish
Night 3: casual grill
Night 4: pizza/pasta or another waterfront taverna
That makes a longer stay considerably more interesting.
Where Should You Eat if Staying in Spartochori?
Spartochori has fewer restaurants than Vathy, but enough choice for a short stay.
Lakis, Tsovolas and Tropicana provide different styles, while the waterfront around Spilia/Roka gives you another option nearby. Current restaurant listings show around nine establishments across the Spartochori area, although seasonal availability varies.
For additional variety, spend one evening in Vathy.
Do You Need Restaurant Reservations in Meganisi?
Often not for an ordinary meal, but I wouldn’t rely on that during the busiest summer period.
Meganisi receives a substantial sailing crowd, meaning harbour restaurants can suddenly become busy when yachts arrive.
For a particular restaurant, a large group or a waterfront table at a popular dinner time, book ahead where possible.
Outside the peak period, you can usually afford to be more spontaneous.
Are Restaurants in Meganisi Expensive?
There is enough variety to control what you spend.
A fresh-fish dinner beside a harbour will naturally cost considerably more than gyros, pizza or a simple grill meal.
If you’re travelling on a budget, alternate between:
tavernas, grill houses and bakery/café meals
rather than ordering fresh fish every evening.
Always check the menu and current prices before ordering seafood sold by weight.
Is Vathy the Best Place to Stay for Restaurants?
If restaurants are one of your priorities, yes.
Vathy offers the greatest concentration of choices and lets you walk to dinner rather than drive.
That doesn’t necessarily make Vathy the best place for everyone to stay—we’ll deal with that separately in our accommodation guide—but it is probably the easiest base for travellers who enjoy a different restaurant every night.
A Simple Meganisi Food Itinerary
For four nights, I’d spread the meals around the island rather than eating exclusively in Vathy.
Night 1 – Vathy: traditional Greek waterfront dinner.
Night 2 – Spartochori: village taverna after exploring Spartochori and Spilia.
Night 3 – Vathy: seafood/fresh fish after your boat day.
Night 4 – Katomeri or one of the bays: quieter final meal away from the main harbour.
That way, food becomes part of exploring Meganisi rather than something separate from sightseeing.
Final Thoughts
Meganisi isn’t an island where you need dozens of famous restaurants.
Its dining appeal comes from the combination of small family tavernas, seafood, traditional Greek cooking and waterfront settings.
For the widest choice, spend your evenings in Vathy.
For a quieter village atmosphere, try Spartochori or Katomeri.
And at least once, have lunch or dinner beside one of the island’s smaller bays.
