Alonnisos, which is sometimes spelled as Alonissos, is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. It is the third member of the Northern Sporades and is located about three kilometers east of the island of Skopelos.
Chrissi Milia
If you have ever been to the Greek island of Alonissos, you have probably heard of the stunning Chrissi Milia beach. Located 5 km northeast of Patitiri, Chrissi Milia is one of the most beautiful beaches on Alonissos. You can rent sun beds and umbrellas here, as well as enjoy water sports. The beach also has rocky pools.
Gyrismata
The beach at Gyrismata is a beautiful pebbled cove in the southern part of Alonnisos. It is surrounded by tavernas and features crystal clear water and soft golden sand. Located close to the main town of Patitiri, this beach is popular with families and visitors alike.
Visitors will also be able to take advantage of the island’s marine park, the first of its kind in Europe. This park is home to a large variety of marine species and has several areas for snorkeling. You will find many seals and other sea life as well as hundreds of types of fish in the clear waters around the island. A visit to this park will also allow you to snap some wonderful photographs of the sealife. The island is also home to the Submarine Museum of Greece, which is located on the Peristera islet.
Another beach you should not miss is Gyrismata, which is situated about 5 km from Skyros Town. It is a lovely sandy shore with some organization. The water is clear, and the beach is a great spot for a family outing. You can also find many cafeterias and tavernas in the area.
Acherounes
Acherounes has some of the best beaches in the Sporades. These pristine beaches offer a laid-back, tranquil atmosphere perfect for a quiet day out in the sun. While this island is not ideal for a raucous nightlife, it has plenty of good souvenir shops and restaurants.
The island is also known for its hiking trails. There are 14 different trails on the island that are graded according to their difficulty. Most of them are suitable for children. The island also boasts many uninhabited beaches, including Gioura, Pelgonisi, Psathoura, Troulos, and Agia Paraskevi.
In the south of the island, you will find Megalos Mourtias. This pebble beach is just a six-kilometer drive from Patitiri. It has clear, clean water, and tavernas.
Leftos Gialos
If you’re on Alonnisos’s northeast coast, you’re not likely to go far from Leftos Gialos Beach. It is a quiet, white pebble beach with crystal-clear waters. Near the beach, there are a couple of taverns where you can eat local food for a reasonable price.
Leftos Gialos beach is a paradise-like spot that lies 7 km north of Patitiri. The beach is ideal for relaxing, and only gets crowded when excursion boats stop. The view is truly breathtaking. There are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach. The beach is also home to a cafe, and there is ample parking for those who want to bring their own car.
In addition to Leftos Gialos beach, there are many other places to see and visit while on Alonissos. The Mavrikis Folklore Museum is a private museum opened in 2000. You’ll find a variety of exhibits here, including local art, costumes, and artifacts found in the area. This museum is a great way to learn more about the island’s history.
Koukounaries
If you are looking for a beach that is ideal for families, Koukounaries is the place to go. Located 13 km from the town of Skiathos, the Koukounaries beach is a quiet and family-friendly location. It has crystal-clear water and fine sand. It is accessible by car, bus, or walking.
You’ll find two main beaches on Koukounaries. The first is the sweeping crescent of golden sand and crystal-clear water. It has plenty of watersports, including diving and boat hire. Another popular beach is Megali Ammos, a smaller bay with crystal-clear waters. Another popular beach, Banana, is surrounded by pine trees and offers many water activities.
If you’d like to explore the underwater world, you can head to the National Marine Park of Alonissos. It protects the area’s wildlife, monuments, and fauna. There are also several deserted islands in the area. The old capital of Alonissos, Chora, is located on the island and has a beautiful view of the ocean. The island is also home to the ancient cathedral and castle remains.
