Samothrace, sitting a few hours away from Alexandroupolis on the northeastern border of Greece and Turkey, is an otherworldly island. Its landscape is dominated by the mighty peak of Mount Saos.

Kipi
Kipi Beach stretches over a kilometer and is one of the largest beaches in Samothrace. Its pebbles are dark in color and contrast with the deep blue sea.
The beach is not organized and is rarely crowded, but in high season there are taverns and beach bars. It is also a good place for snorkeling.
In the north of the island there are a number of other beautiful beaches that are only accessible by tour boat or by a long hike. These beaches are characterized by their ancient, lush vegetation that is very different from the flora encountered on other Greek islands. Giant plate trees intertwine with forests of oak and andraklies (trees whose trunk is a burgundy colour) while verdant streams and waterfalls create dozens of Samothracian pools (or vathres).
Besides swimming in the sea or in the island’s freezing plunge pools, it is also worth visiting the thermal baths at Therma Loutra (the “old village”). They have been used since Byzantine times to treat ailments such as chronic rheumatism, gynecological diseases, vascular diseases and skin conditions.
Therma
Therma is a beach on the north of Samothrace. It is famous for its untamed beauty, and it features grey pebbles with clear waters. The beach is also known for the tower that supposedly stands here – according to one legend it was built after a murder and was named after this. Another attraction is a nearby chapel, Panagia Krimniotissa.
In addition to secluded beaches, Samothrace is famous for its sulphur springs and thermal baths. These baths have been used since the Byzantine era for their healing properties and help treat various ailments, such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic rheumatism, gynecological conditions, and vascular diseases.
Unlike other Greek islands, Samothrace does not offer endless gently sloping sandy beaches, but its rocky and natural landscape is equally enchanting. The island attracts those looking for serenity, a sense of freedom and tranquillity not available at popular hotspot destinations with livelier summer scenes. Antiquities, ancient ruins, local gastronomy, and outdoor activities are all reasons to visit this unique destination.
Pachia Ammos
Located in the southwestern part of Samothrace, Pachia Ammos is the only sandy beach on the island. During the summer months it is one of the most popular beaches on the island and the busiest. The thick sand and turquoise waters combine to make this a marvelous beach.
It is easily accessible by car from Kamariotissa and hosts a beach bar, sun beds, showers and a restaurant. It is also one of the best places to watch a sunset on the island.
The other notable beach on the island is Kipos, a wild gravel beach that curves around the eastern tip of the island. It is also a very relaxing spot for getting your tan and the water is crystal clear. Make sure to visit the church of Panagia Krimniotissa, perched on a rock above the beach. It offers an incredible view and a small home run tavern. On a clear day you can see all the way to Asia Minor!
Vatos
Located to the east of Pachia Ammos and only reachable by boat, Vatos is considered the most beautiful beach in Samothrace. It is a very large beach with white sand and crystal clear turquoise waters. It is surrounded by high cliffs that form caves. The area is covered by evergreen trees and a ravine with plane trees, cool water pools and stone carved natural pools called “vathres”.
In the north of Samothrace there is the village of Therma where you can find accommodation and restaurants. Therma is a spa village where you can visit the hot springs (baths) with different temperatures and enjoy the beauty of nature.
