The Best Beaches in Mathraki are mostly rocky coves that offer privacy to those who love to spend their holidays here. There are very limited tourist facilities and you will have to travel around the island on foot.
The small island is green with beautiful nature, cypress trees and a few local tavernas. It is also a good choice for travellers that love walking and enjoying nice swims on sandy beaches.
Kontrakas Beach
The beach is a gorgeous stretch of shore that merges with the crystal clear waters and offers some great views. Unlike many other beaches on the island, it is not organized and has very little visitors, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy some privacy.
The beach can be reached from Chorio village and the port of Plakes. There are a few traditional studios and rooms with basic facilities that cater the few tourists who spend their holiday on Mathraki.
Portello Beach
Portello Beach is one of the best beaches in Mathraki. It is found on the eastern side of the island and is surrounded by lush greenery and crystal clear water. It is the only sandy beach on the island and its large size is sure to impress visitors at first sight. It is easily reachable from Chorio Village or the port of Plakes.
The secluded Mathraki island is a perfect option for those who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of Corfu. It is the smallest of the Diapontia islands and is home to two small villages: Ano and Kato Mathraki. This quiet island is accessible by boat and it receives few tourists even in high season. The island is full of juniper and cypress trees, sandy beaches and local taverns that serve delicious Greek food.
Apidies Beach
Known as Paradise Beach for its picture-perfect nature, towering cliffs flank pale white sands lapped by clearest seas. It’s the most isolated beach on Mathraki but boat captains drop off and pick up visitors here at fairly regular intervals in high season.
The rocky coasts of Mathraki’s southern and southwestern sections offer some pristine beaches to relax. On the southwestern corner, Apidies Beach is non-organized, pebbled and very secluded. On the southeastern corner, Arvanitiko Beach can be reached on foot from Chorio.
These beaches have a frontier feel to them, and it’s not uncommon for wind and kite surfers to pitch up here in the off-season. They are both backed by cedar forests and have plenty to do in terms of walking and swimming.
Arvanitiko Beach
Mathraki is the smallest of the three islands that comprise the group of Corfu’s Diapontia, but it has some of the best beaches. It’s also very easy to navigate as a single road runs around the island.
The southeastern coast of the island has beaches with pebbles and a more rocky landscape. These beaches are non-organized and very secluded, which makes them perfect for visitors who want to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
The most popular beach is Glyfada, which is a sandy beach with a high-end Athenian feel. It has a great view of Palamidi Castle and offers a variety of facilities, including water sports. There are also some excellent restaurants and beach bars at this location. The southeastern coast of the island also has a number of different beaches, including Agouridi Beach.
Fyki Beach
The pristine Fyki Beach is one of the best beaches in Mathraki, an island northwest of Corfu that makes you feel like a castaway. Backed by juniper or cypress trees and with crystal clear waters, it’s a favourite among travellers who want to escape the crowds.
The beach is split into a more organized southern end with tavernas and sunbeds and a wilder northern side that’s clothing-optional. It’s also home to a Loggerhead Turtle nesting ground.
The smallest of the Diapontia islands (Erikoussa, Othoni and Mathraki), it has a small population of just over 100 residents who live from fishing and olive cultivation. Its main village is Chorio and its port is Plakes. There are no cars on the island and you’ll walk to all of its main locations.
