Choosing where to stay in Sikinos is refreshingly simple.
Unlike larger Cycladic islands with dozens of resort areas, most accommodation on Sikinos is concentrated in two places: Alopronia, the small port settlement beside the beach, and Chora, the traditional hilltop village.
The choice between them matters more than choosing between individual hotels.
Stay in Alopronia if you want the beach, ferry port and everyday convenience within walking distance.
Stay in Chora if you want whitewashed lanes, traditional Cycladic atmosphere and the island’s best evening experience.
Accommodation is mostly small hotels, guesthouses, studios and apartments rather than large resorts.
Here are some of the best places to stay in Sikinos.
1. Porto Sikinos Hotel
Best for: a traditional beachfront hotel
Porto Sikinos Hotel occupies one of the most convenient locations on the island.
It’s in Alopronia, directly beside the sea and close to both the ferry port and beach.
Unlike many Sikinos accommodation options, which are essentially rooms or apartments, Porto Sikinos operates more like a small conventional hotel.
There’s also a restaurant at the property.
That combination makes it particularly attractive for first-time visitors who want everything to be straightforward.
You can arrive by ferry, settle into your room and spend the rest of the afternoon swimming without needing to organise transport anywhere.
2. Vrahos Rooms & Studios
Best for: staying right beside the sea
Vrahos Rooms & Studios is another excellent Alopronia option.
The property sits directly beside the waterfront, with rooms and studios overlooking the sea or surrounding landscape.
Alopronia Beach is only moments away.
This is exactly the sort of accommodation that works particularly well on Sikinos.
You don’t need a swimming pool or enormous resort complex when the Aegean is practically outside your room.
Vrahos is especially appealing for couples who want simple accommodation with a classic Greek-island setting.
3. Maistrali
Best for: sea views and a peaceful waterfront stay
Maistrali is one of my favourite-looking options around Alopronia.
The guesthouse is built into the rocky landscape close to the beach, with rooms opening onto balconies or terraces.
The elevated position provides excellent views across the Aegean.
You’re also still close enough to Alopronia to walk to the port, beach and places to eat.
That combination — views without isolation — makes Maistrali particularly attractive.
If I wanted to stay near the beach but still have somewhere peaceful to retreat to in the afternoon, this would be high on my shortlist.
4. Galini Apartments Sikinos
Best for: self-catering near Alopronia Beach
Galini Apartments provides another practical base around Alopronia.
The apartments are only a short walk from the beach and have balconies, with some enjoying views towards the sea.
Apartment accommodation makes particular sense if you’re spending several days on Sikinos.
Having your own space and simple facilities gives you more flexibility for breakfast, coffee or a light meal rather than relying on restaurants every time you’re hungry.
You’re also close to the port and local transport.
For a longer stay, Galini Apartments is a very sensible option.
5. Galini Rooms Sikinos
Best for: simple rooms near the port
Galini Rooms offers a similar location but in a more straightforward room format.
The property is within walking distance of Alopronia Beach, the harbour and the settlement’s basic services.
That makes it particularly convenient if you’re travelling without a car.
There’s also something to be said for staying near the ferry port on a small island.
On departure morning, you don’t have to turn catching your ferry into a logistical exercise.
For travellers prioritising convenience and value over luxury, Galini Rooms deserves consideration.
6. Camares
Best for: stylish accommodation overlooking Alopronia
Camares provides something slightly different from the island’s more traditional rooms.
The property occupies an elevated position above the Alopronia area and has a more contemporary feel.
There’s outdoor space where you can enjoy the surrounding landscape and views towards the coast.
The beach is still within walking distance.
Camares also works particularly well if you like the idea of staying near Alopronia without being directly beside the activity around the harbour.
You get the convenience of the port area while retaining a little more separation from it.
7. Ioli Apartments
Best for: independent apartment accommodation
Ioli Apartments is another well-regarded choice for travellers who prefer having their own apartment rather than a hotel room.
This style of accommodation is particularly appropriate on Sikinos.
The island is somewhere you’re likely to spend several days slowly exploring rather than moving constantly between organised attractions.
Having a comfortable base where you can make coffee, prepare something simple to eat and relax between excursions can therefore be more useful than traditional hotel facilities.
For couples or independent travellers staying several nights, Ioli Apartments is worth considering.
8. Lucas B Panorama
Best for: panoramic views near Alopronia
As the name suggests, Lucas B Panorama is particularly appealing for its views.
The property sits above the Alopronia area, providing a broader outlook across the sea and surrounding island landscape.
You’re still within reach of the port, supermarket, beach and local transport.
This makes it another strong compromise between convenience and tranquillity.
Rather than staying directly on the harbour, you can retreat somewhere quieter while remaining close enough that everyday logistics stay simple.
9. Stegadi Apartments Sikinos
Best for: experiencing village life
If you’d rather stay in Chora than Alopronia, Stegadi Apartments is one of the strongest choices.
This gives you a completely different Sikinos experience.
Instead of waking beside the beach and ferry port, you’re surrounded by the island’s traditional hilltop settlement.
Whitewashed houses, narrow lanes and the rugged Cycladic landscape become part of your everyday surroundings.
The apartments include kitchen facilities and balconies, with views across the island and towards the sea.
For travellers interested in traditional island life rather than primarily having a beach holiday, I’d seriously consider staying here.
10. Chora Place
Best for: staying in the heart of traditional Sikinos
Chora Place is another attractive option if your priority is the atmosphere of Sikinos’s main village.
Staying in Chora changes the rhythm of the holiday.
You can explore during the day, return to your accommodation during the afternoon and then simply walk out again for dinner.
There’s no need to think about travelling back down to the port at the end of every evening.
Chora is particularly atmospheric once temperatures fall and people begin filling the village’s small restaurants and gathering places.
For a couple wanting a quintessentially Cycladic stay, I’d choose Chora over Alopronia.
Where Is the Best Area to Stay in Sikinos?
For such a small island, the choice is surprisingly significant.
Stay in Alopronia if…

easy ferry access
a supermarket and everyday services nearby
simple transport connections
a practical base without a car

Alopronia or Chora?
For a first visit without a car, I’d probably choose Alopronia.
It’s simply easier.
You step off the ferry and you’re already where most of the island’s accommodation and basic visitor services are concentrated.
There’s a beach beside the settlement, and local transport connects the port with Chora when operating.
But if I were returning to Sikinos?
I’d probably stay in Chora.
Once you understand the island’s geography, the attraction of being surrounded by the traditional village every evening becomes stronger.
There isn’t a wrong choice.
They’re simply two different versions of Sikinos.
Where Should Couples Stay?
For sea views and a quiet setting near the beach, I’d look at Maistrali or Vrahos Rooms & Studios.
For something with a little more atmosphere in the evening, I’d choose accommodation in Chora.
The island itself is extremely well suited to couples who prefer quiet destinations.
Sikinos isn’t about nightlife or organised entertainment.
Dinner, wine, walking through Chora and watching the sunset essentially are the entertainment.
Where Should Families Stay?
I’d favour Alopronia.
Having the beach, accommodation and basic services close together makes life considerably easier with children.
Apartment accommodation can also be useful because it gives you more flexibility with food.
Galini Apartments and some of the other self-catering properties around Alopronia are therefore worth investigating.
The convenience of being near the ferry port is another advantage when travelling with luggage.
Where Should You Stay Without a Car?
Definitely consider Alopronia first.
You can walk to:
the beach,
the port,
places to eat,
basic shopping,
and local transport.
That removes much of the logistical difficulty from your trip.
You can then travel up to Chora when you want to explore the village or have dinner there.
If you’re a keen walker, staying in Chora can also work extremely well, but Alopronia is the easier choice for most visitors.
Is It Worth Staying in Chora?
Absolutely.
In fact, Chora may provide the more memorable overall experience.
The advantage becomes particularly obvious in the evening.
Day visitors disappear, temperatures become more comfortable and the village’s narrow lanes and small squares take on a completely different atmosphere.
You can have dinner, stay for another drink and simply walk back to your accommodation.
If traditional Greek-island atmosphere matters more to you than being beside the beach, stay in Chora.
Does Sikinos Have Luxury Hotels?
Sikinos isn’t really a luxury-hotel destination.
And that’s one of its strengths.
Accommodation is predominantly:
small hotels
guesthouses
rooms
studios
apartments
traditional houses
Travellers looking for enormous pools, spas, international hotel brands and resort facilities should probably choose another Cycladic island.
Sikinos appeals to people who value location, views, tranquillity and authenticity more than extensive hotel facilities.
Should You Book Accommodation in Advance?
Yes, particularly during summer.
Sikinos receives far fewer visitors than Santorini, Naxos or Paros, but it also has far fewer rooms.
That distinction matters.
It doesn’t take thousands of tourists to fill the island’s accommodation.
July and August deserve particularly early planning.
If you’re travelling in June or September, you’ll generally have more flexibility, but I’d still book ahead rather than arriving on the island assuming you’ll find somewhere.
How Long Should You Stay in Sikinos?
I’d recommend three nights.
That gives you enough time to explore:
Chora and Kastro
Episkopi
Zoodochos Pigi
Manalis Winery
several beaches
and at least one of the island’s walking routes.
Four or five nights would be even better if you’re deliberately looking for a slow, quiet island holiday.
Sikinos isn’t somewhere you need to rush through.
Can You Visit Sikinos as a Day Trip?
It’s possible depending on ferry connections, but I wouldn’t build a trip around that idea.
The attraction of Sikinos isn’t a single monument you can photograph before returning to the port.
Much of its appeal appears later in the day.
Chora becomes particularly enjoyable towards evening, while sunset, dinner and the quiet atmosphere after dark are important parts of the experience.
Staying overnight lets you experience the island rather than simply seeing it.
Which Sikinos Accommodation Would I Choose?
For a first visit, I’d probably choose Maistrali.
It gives you sea views, proximity to Alopronia Beach and convenient access to the port without sacrificing the feeling that you’ve escaped somewhere quiet.
For straightforward beachfront convenience, I’d look at Porto Sikinos Hotel or Vrahos Rooms & Studios.
For a longer self-catering stay, Galini Apartments makes sense.
And if my priority were traditional Cycladic atmosphere rather than the beach, I’d choose Stegadi Apartments or another property in Chora.
Ultimately, however, the biggest decision isn’t the property.
It’s:
Alopronia or Chora?
Get that decision right and the individual accommodation choice becomes much easier.
Final Thoughts
Sikinos doesn’t have hundreds of hotels — and it doesn’t need them.
Stay in Alopronia if you want the beach, port and practical convenience.
Stay in Chora if you want traditional village life and atmospheric evenings.
Choose a waterfront room if waking to the Aegean matters most.
Choose an apartment if you’re staying longer and want more independence.
Whichever you choose, don’t expect resort-style tourism.
The best places to stay in Sikinos are small, independent and closely connected to the landscape around them.
That’s exactly how accommodation on an island like Sikinos should be.
