Schinoussa is a tranquil island that attracts mid to upscale travelers. It has no cars, and the only way to see the island is on foot.
The port of Schinoussa is located in a closed bay safe from the summer north wind. From here ferries connect to Naxos, Iraklia, Koufonisia and Donousa daily.

Located directly south of Naxos, Schinoussa is part of the Small Cyclades (although it would be more accurate to call them the Lesser Cyclades). The island doesn’t attract as much of the mass tourist crowd as many of the other islands do, and is mostly frequented by those seeking a tranquil getaway with good quality accommodations and restaurants.
The best time to visit the island is during the summer months of May to September when the weather is warm, sunny and not too windy. The island is home to three villages, and also has a handful of beaches and hiking trails. Another popular option is the Hotel Platia, which is right on Tsigouri beach and offers rooms with a lovely view of the Aegean Sea.
Most of the accommodation options on the island are housed in traditional white cubed Cycladic complexes and include studios and apartments with private balconies, basic facilities and amenities, and breakfast included. Some are also located in town, while others are found in the secluded village of Messaria, with its beautiful scenery.
In terms of dining, Schinoussa is well served with a handful of tavernas. Taverna Mersini is a popular choice with its lobster spaghetti and excellent service, and just a few doors up is Nikolas of Schinoussa which is a favorite with groups and families. 4. Deli Restaurant & Cafe Bar
Located near Hope Sculpture, Deli Restaurant & Cafe Bar is an ideal spot to have a meal after a long walk. You can savor nicely cooked corned beef, reuben sandwiches and spaghetti here. Those who prefer sweets should try cannolis, waffles and chocolate mousse. This place is equipped with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff, so it’s no wonder that clients appreciate it.
For those who are planning a visit, be sure to book in advance. It can be very crowded during peak times. Guests also have the option of booking private dining rooms. Moreover, this eatery accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
5. Nikolas of Schinoussa
Unlike other islands in the Cyclades, Schinoussa has very few tourist facilities. Instead, most of the island’s population is made up of locals and repeat visitors. These guests tend to be looking for an off the beaten path destination that is still relatively unspoiled by mass tourism. This is a place where you can truly relax and enjoy the Greek sunshine.
There are only three small villages on the island and a total of 18 beautiful beaches. There are also a number of hiking paths and hidden coves to discover.
The village of Chora is the main hub of activity on the island. It is built at the highest point of the island and it’s believed that it was built so that inhabitants could see approaching pirate ships.
Most of the accommodation on the island is located near the port of Schinoussa. The Hotel Illiovasilema is a traditional whitewashed Cycladic property that offers lovely views. Alternatively, you can stay at the newer and more luxurious Archipelagos Boutique Hotel.
If you’re travelling with kids, then Anatoli Studios is a good choice as it has a big pool and family rooms. There are some excellent tavernas in the village including Taverna Mersini for their lobster spaghetti and Kira Pothiti for true homecooked meals and hospitality.
There are regular ferries to Schinoussa from Naxos and Paros. You can book a ticket online with Ferryhopper or buy one from the agents at the ports. You can also take a sailing tour from Paros that visits Schinoussa, Iraklia, and Koufonisia.
