Hydra is a glamorous island, with its neo-classical mansions and smooching couples off the early hydrofoil from Athens. In high season its port can resemble St Tropez, with yachts moored alongside old captains’ vessels.
Even when the crowds disperse, the island still feels authentic and untouched by mass tourism. At tavernas such as Xeri Elia Douskos above the swimming rocks in Kamini, you’ll likely find old men singing and playing guitar for supper.
